How to solve

Logs turn multiplication into addition because they measure exponents. The product rule log(ab) = log a + log b expands a single log of a product into a sum of logs of the factors.

Steps

  1. Apply log(ab) = log a + log b.
  2. Write the expanded sum with the same base as the original log.

Example

Expand log(ab).

  1. Product rule: log(ab) = log a + log b.

Answer: log(a)+log(b)

How to type answers

  • Enter like log(a)+log(b)
