How to solve
A unit rate answers “how much per one.” Dividing the measured quantity by the number of units collapses a ratio into a single comparable rate (miles per hour, cost per item, and so on).
Steps
- Identify the quantity being measured and the number of units.
- Divide quantity ÷ units to get the per-one rate.
- Simplify the fraction if the rate is not an integer.
Example
A car travels 150 miles in 3 hours. Find the unit rate in miles per hour.
- Divide distance by time: 150 ÷ 3.
- 150/3 = 50 miles per hour.
Answer: 50
