How to solve

A percent is a rate out of 100. Taking p% of a number means multiplying by the fraction p/100 (or the matching decimal), which scales the whole into the corresponding part.

Steps

  1. Convert p% to the fraction p/100 (or to a decimal).
  2. Multiply that rate by the whole number.
  3. Simplify if the result is a fraction.

Example

Find 25% of 80.

  1. 25% = 25/100 = 1/4.
  2. (1/4) × 80 = 20.
