How to solve

Complementary angles add to 90°; supplementary angles add to 180°. Subtract the known angle from the total.

Steps

  1. Decide which total applies: 90° (complementary) or 180° (supplementary).
  2. Subtract the given angle.
  3. Sanity-check: the answer must be positive.

Example

Two angles are supplementary; one is 112°. Find the other.

  1. 180 − 112 = 68.

Answer: 68
