How to solve
An equilibrium is a constant solution: the derivative is zero, so solve f(y) = 0.
Steps
- Set the right-hand side equal to zero.
- Solve for y.
- That constant function solves the equation forever.
Example
y' = 3(y − 5). Equilibrium?
- 3(y − 5) = 0.
- y = 5.
Answer: 5
