How to solve

Critical points occur where f' = 0 (or f' undefined). For polynomials, set f' = 0.

Steps

  1. Differentiate.
  2. Solve f'(x) = 0.

Example

f(x)=x²−6x

  1. f'=2x−6=0 ⇒ x=3.

Answer: 3
