Steps

  1. Identify the shaded shape and its dimensions.
  2. Use the relevant geometry formula.
  3. Because the region is above the axis, report positive area.

Example

The region under y = x from x = 0 to x = 4 is a triangle.

  1. Base = 4 and height = 4.
  2. Area = 1/2 · 4 · 4 = 8.
