How to solve

Division asks how many equal groups fit into a total. For integers that divide evenly, find the missing factor; the sign of the quotient follows the same same-sign / different-sign rule as multiplication.

Steps

  1. Ask: what integer times the divisor equals the dividend?
  2. Apply the sign rule: same signs → positive quotient; different signs → negative.

Example

Compute (−24) ÷ 6.

  1. 6 × (−4) = −24, so the magnitude of the quotient is 4.
  2. Signs differ, so the quotient is −4.

Answer: -4
