How to solve
Ignore the decimal points, multiply the whole numbers, then give the product as many decimal places as the two factors have combined.
Steps
- Multiply as if both factors were whole numbers.
- Count the total decimal places in the factors.
- Move the decimal point that many places left in the product.
Example
0.6 × 1.2
- 6 × 12 = 72.
- Two decimal places total → 0.72.
Answer: 0.72
