How to solve

Scientific notation is m × 10^e with 1 ≤ m < 10. Count how many places the decimal point moves.

Steps

  1. Move the decimal so one nonzero digit sits before the point.
  2. Count the places moved: that is the exponent.
  3. Big numbers get positive exponents; small ones negative.

Example

Write 32000 in scientific notation.

  1. Decimal moves 4 places left: 3.2.
  2. So 3.2 × 10⁴.

Answer: 3.2*10^4

How to type answers
