Algebra

How to solve

Treat i like a variable: real parts combine with real parts, imaginary with imaginary.

Steps

  1. Add (or subtract) the real parts.
  2. Add (or subtract) the coefficients of i.
  3. Write the result as a + bi.

Example

(3 + 5i) + (2 − 8i)

  1. Real: 3 + 2 = 5.
  2. Imaginary: 5 − 8 = −3.

Answer: 5-3i

How to type answers

  • Write it like 5-3i (no spaces needed)
